Delhi Capitals weren’t up to the mark on the day.
Mumbai Indians won the battle between the two of the most consistent sides of IPL 2020 quite convincingly. Delhi Capitals didn’t play like a table topper and their sluggish performance led them to their second defeat. Suryakumar Yadav, Quinton de Kock and Krunal Pandya were the protagonists for MI, who laid the foundation of this complete performance.
Earlier DC managed to score 162 runs in their quota of 20 overs with Shikhar Dhawan’s fifty. However, not changing gears at the end didn’t allow them to get past 175, which was certainly on the cards. MI chased the total down rather comfortably and DC faced their second defeat. There are some minor things that DC should work on before the next game as they are still one of the best sides of the season.
Here are the three mistakes committed by DC in Match 27, MI vs DC:-
1. Shikhar Dhawan failed to accelerate at the end
Shikhar Dhawan played the role of an anchor and held one end against Mumbai’s strong bowling line up. However, when Delhi was all set to score big in the end, Dhawan wasn’t able to capitalise. Even after playing till the end, he managed to score 69* off 52. DC scored only 51 runs in last five overs and that turned out to be a major difference in MI vs DC encounter.
2. Only one over for Rabada in the beginning
As DC managed to score only 162 runs, their strike bowler, Kagiso Rabada was expected to provide them breakthroughs early on. However he was only given one over in the beginning and even when Rohit Sharma got out, he wasn’t asked to bowl. If DC would have added pressure at that time, some quick wickets could have changed the momentum.
3. Sluggish fielding
Delhi Capitals’ fielding wasn’t up to the mark in this game and they gave away too many chances. Ajinkya Rahane missed a runout, while Prithvi Shaw and Ravi Ashwin dropped catches and there were several misfields. As they were defending an average total, the significance of fielding was much higher and DC didn’t impress in that department. They should work on their fielding before the next game as this department can make a vital difference between 15-20 runs.
