Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting force failed to fire yet again and their dismal IPL 2020 campaign continued on Saturday. The MS Dhoni-led side fell 37 runs short of the 170-run target against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

During their run-chase, CSK got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of Faf du Plessis in the fourth over with just 19 runs on the scoreboard. Ambati Rayudu and Narayan Jagadeesan tried saving CSK’s sinking ship by ticking the run-flow with their cautious knocks. The duo put on 64 runs for the third wicket before Jagadeesan got run out for 33.

But in the end, skipper MS Dhoni also failed to deliver with the willow. Coming to bat at No.5, he tried to smash a boundary off Yuzvendra Chahal’s delivery. He, however, failed to clear the rope. Chris Morris, playing his first game for RCB, scalped a three-wicket haul as Virat Kohli’s men thumped the CSK side by a margin of 37 runs.

Virat Kohli was extra special against CSK: Virender Sehwag

Following CSK’s defeat, former India batsman Virender Sehwag slammed their disappointing show with the bat.

Sehwag took to Twitter and wrote “Feel sad for Chennai fans. This was a team that fought & teams used to be wary till the end. Have been very disappointing especially with d bat, leaving it for too late.”

Sehwag further also heaped praise on RCB skipper Kohli for his stellar show with the willow. Kohli, flaunting his exemplary technique and fitness levels, hit an unbeaten 90 off 52 deliveries and guided RCB to a competitive total. “Kohli was extra special today. Many batsmen can learn how to not get bogged down, played only 5 dots,” Sehwag added in his tweet.

CSK also faced the heat of fans after failing to accelerate the run-flow according to the asking run-rate. Both Rayudu and Jagadeesan were inefficient in smashing boundaries and increase the run-flow of their side. In the end, Chennai managed to amass just 132 runs and their dismal run in UAE continued with this loss.

CSK, on of the most consistent sides of the IPL, have now registered five losses in seven games and are sitting sixth in the points table with four points. If the Yellow Army wants to qualify for the Playoffs, they’ll have to pull up their socks and get back to winning ways in the second phase of the tournament. They’ll next face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on 13 October at Dubai International Stadium.
