IPL is the most proficient annual T20 cricket league played in India. Having followers from all cricketing nations is sufficient to know its popularity and fan base. Currently, 8 franchises participate in this astonishing league which is played in the month of March, April, and May. The T20 league was founded by BCCI in 2008 and has successfully completed 12 seasons till now with the 13th edition in progress.

Since the start of the cash-rich league in 2008, many franchises have participated in the tournament. Till now a total of 13 teams have taken part out of which 5 are not the part of the current pool. The former teams are Deccan Chargers (2008-2012), Kochi Tuskers Kerala (2011-2011), Pune Warriors India (2011-2013), Rising Pune Supergiants (2016-2018) & Gujarat Lions (2016-2018).

The first-ever IPL season was won by Rajasthan Royals and the winning list goes on. Throughout the 12 seasons of IPL, 6 teams have won the IPL trophy so far. There are 3 teams from the current pool which have not won a single title yet.

MI is the most successful team

If we talk about the most successful teams in IPL, then it has to be the four-time champions, Mumbai Indians. MI has won the title in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019. CSK is also in the list of successful teams as they have won a total of 3 IPL tournaments and has qualified for the most number of times in IPL final. Out of 12 finals, the MS Dhoni-led side has played 8 of them and has won 3.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, and Kings XI Punjab have not won a title yet but all these franchises have shown their ability to win the matches in every situation. In this IPL season, all three teams had a boosting start and are hoping to lift the trophy with this consistent momentum of winning.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the IPL is being played in the UAE this year and out of its normal window. This is also the second time, the tournament is being played out of India.
